Mujeres y montañas
nacimiento del pirineísmo femenino
IV Premio Desnivel de Literatura de Montaña, Viajes y Aventura, 2002
Iturralde Navarro, Marta
Women and mountains. Birth of female Pyrenees, offers an exciting testimony of the curiosity, determination and desire for self-improvement of the first Pyrenees. Composed of seven fictionalized narratives, located between 1792 and 1858, it reconstructs in a very convincing way the experiences of the pioneers in Pyrenean mountaineering. From Rosalie Ramond to Alice Prévost, various personal and historical circumstances, sometimes very dramatic, have pushed these vibrant beings with emotions to venture into places that were then little explored: the Peak Between the Passes, the Pic du Midi de Bigorre, the Hourquette d'Ossoue, Brecha de Rolando, Monte Perdido, Vignemale and Aneto. A mountaineer, a summit, some experiences... The result is an intimate and personal narrative, where the reconstruction effort has been as rigorous as the documentation effort. Marta Iturralde shows off all her sensitivity and mountaineering experience to convey her vision of those historic ascents.
