Muerte por suicidio
el sufrimiento de las víctimas y el duelo de los supervivientes
Echeburúa Odriozola, Enrique
The aim of this work is to address death by suicide from a global perspective, which means paying attention to both the suffering of people who opt for this irreversible decision and the mourning of survivors (family and close friends) who have to face this dramatic reality. The reality of the person who has taken their own life cannot be dissociated from the trail of pain that they leave in their immediate environment. Death by suicide is a specifically human phenomenon and has been surrounded by an aura of silence -silent death-, especially with regard to young people, and a fear of the contagion effect. It is, however, a public health problem that, to a greater or lesser degree, affects all societies and is associated with a stigma that can prevent the adoption of adequate prevention measures and increase the suffering of survivors.
