One of the most debated economic policy issues in recent times has been the fixing and raising of the minimum wage. David Card and Alan B. Krueger, two of the most renowned economists of recent decades, gained great notoriety precisely for dismantling the myths that economic science held about this issue. With their groundbreaking research in the field of labor economics, Card and Krueger challenged the common belief that a higher minimum wage means reduced job opportunities for low-income workers. Such a questioning of the established economic theory is the one that is collected for the first time in Spanish in Mito y measurement. The study, which has important implications for public policy and for the direction of economic research, draws on abundant empirical evidence and draws on recent experiences in the United States. For each of the cases, the economists present a collection of data showing that increases in the minimum wage produced increases in income, but did not imply job losses. Card and Krueger, through empirical methods imported from the natural sciences, critically review all the existing literature on the minimum wage and provide us with a new battery of arguments to defend the relevance of this policy.
