Mira quién habla
cosas que dicen los animales
Buoninconti, Francesca
Animals are often said to have no voice, but they are actually great talkers. In our backyards and in the rain forests, in our city parks and in the depths of the ocean, and anywhere there is animal life, there are messages of all kinds floating around. There are animals that report by singing, like birds; and others that, like the whales, sing dialects transmitted from generation to generation; there are those who communicate with picturesque dances, those who execute tap steps like Fred Astaire and even those who prefer the inimitable style of Michael Jackson. And, of course, there are animals that express themselves through colors, poses, smells, mysterious signals and buzzes. In addition, as occurs among humans, there are also animals that lie more than they speak, as is the case with some insects, birds and primates. In this hubbub of coded messages, sent to locals and strangers, what do the representatives of the animal kingdom whisper and what do they say to each other? Do the birds sing every time they open their beaks or do they show the females their physical power? And are fish really that naive? Why do chameleons actually change color? Why do gazelles start jumping when they spot a predator, instead of running away at full speed? Do dolphins call each other by name? When do elephants speak the clearest? And, perhaps the most curious thing, are the animals that emit false messages aware of it or do they do it without real intention? If at least once in your life you have asked yourself any of these questions, "Look who's talking. Things animals say" is the book you were looking for.
