Mickey7

Mickey Barnes is an Expendable, incarnated in the seventh replica of his body, who lives (and dies) surrounded by his fellow colonizers on Niflheim, a frozen and almost uninhabitable planet. Some consider him immortal. Others see him as a soulless monstrosity. For the past nine years he has performed all manner of dangerous tasks and has been the guinea pig for experiments that test the limits of human endurance. He has sacrificed his humanity for the greater good. During a reconnaissance mission, Mickey7 is wounded and left to die. However, he is rescued by a species indigenous to Niflheim. When he returns to base, Mickey7 runs into the next replica of him, Mickey8. Neither of them are willing to jump into the recycler, but if someone finds out there are multiple Mickeys, they'll both be euthanized...and Mickey9 will never see the light of day. However, his premature twin brother is not the only secret that Mickey7 hides. He hasn't uploaded a backup copy of his memories in a month, so his clone has no idea how close he's been to dying or his encounter with the planet's inhabitants. Mickey7 also doesn't know how most of his earlier replicas died, and those deaths he remembers have left him traumatized and wary of the colony's mission. A mission that makes her question her morals and his mortal existence... over and over... and over.
