Mezcal
Guerrero, Óscar
North of mexico. A mysterious young woman, her face covered by a mask, enters El Ángel Caído, the busiest place on the border. There the multiple faces of power in the State meet: politicians, businessmen, the fearsome lords of the north. Hanging from a bar, Mezcal displays the sensuality of her naked body night after night, oblivious to the fire that she causes in those who contemplate her. It is only a matter of time before someone takes the first step and the mistake forever alters the fragile balance of an ecosystem gnawed by blind ambitions, corruption and betrayals, where the powerful reign with total impunity. Mercenaries, politicians and trade unionists with no other ideal than power and money, priests who watch over abandoned graves, wild mariachis, drug traffickers, journalists and heart-stopping dancers come together in this hard-boiled film watered with the blood and gunpowder of despair. Loneliness and forgiveness, with their alternatives, are the central axes of a gritty choral story in which its protagonists seek redemption while trying to reach the next dawn. The dawn of an infernal Mexico.
