Santesmases has written an unconventional biography of Joan Cunillera. It does not begin on the day his friend was born, nor does it end on the day of his death, but constitutes a long letter which is still a detailed biography of the painter but which, at the same time, enters fearlessly into the realm of the essay, of the reflection on the small and big subjects of the life and, of course, on the Great Subject that is not other than the Death. At this point biographer and biographer agree: there is a line of total continuity between that which is only seemingly local and that which is of universal interest. That is why in this biography we find, as an inevitable, therefore necessary continuation, of the life that is being told to us, reflections on the beliefs, the dreams, the migrations, the life of the peoples, the pandemic for which we are still happening or the relationship with the friend who just died.
