Mentira y sortilegio

Imagine a large apartment, full of trinkets and empty of life. Suddenly the face of a woman appears in it: it is Elisa, an orphan who lives surrounded by adventure novels and sagas filled with heroes and maidens. Determined to write down the history of her family, this young woman turns her mother, Anna, her father, Francesco, her cousin Edoardo and a generous prostitute named Rosalía into legendary characters. Daughter of contempt, Elisa has inherited an enigma from her parents, and to that enigma are added fear and lies, which engender passionate love affairs, illegitimate children and unhappy marriages. To understand such madness, she writes and takes the reader to a small town in southern Italy at the beginning of the 20th century, a place and a time when women's freedom was in the hands of fathers, husbands and lovers.
