Memorias tristes de la Torre Azul

Memorias tristes de la Torre Azul

Ulfeldt, Leonora Christina

Leonora Christina, Countess of Ulfeldt, daughter of the monarch Cristián IV of Denmark, was imprisoned for twenty-two years, accused of high treason for knowing the conspiracy plans of her husband Corfitz Ulfeldt against the successor to the throne, King Frederick III. During this time, locked in the so-called Blue Tower of Copenhagen Castle, whose cells had very evocative names, such as the Dark Church and the Witches' Cell, Leonora dedicated herself to writing the story of her misfortunes and misadventures, from childhood to release. First published in 1869, two centuries after its writing, and translated into different languages, Sad Memoirs of the Blue Tower has become a reference text in 17th century Danish literature. It is not only the true story of a woman imprisoned for love of her husband, but a story with literary touches about palace plots and conspiracies, full of characters portrayed sometimes in an exaggeratedly ambiguous and mysterious way, who seem the fruit of the best intrigue fiction.
