The Luca de Tena family created a new medium more than a century ago that would soon be decisive in the Spanish news scene: ABC. The best writers, the most seasoned journalists, the most prominent figures of the past century (and the dawn of the present one) have passed through the pages of this flagship of our press in all areas of social and cultural life. Ramón Pérez-Maura has known first-hand the last three decades of this long and fruitful career. A witness of privilege, then, in these memoirs he makes a heartfelt plea in favor of a free and independent journalism, whose contribution to the consolidation of Spanish democracy is absolutely unquestionable.
