Memento mori
Oviedo, Álex
Memento mori, a Latin expression that alludes to the mortality of the human being, the transience of life and the certainty that sooner or later we are going to die, is the common thread of the thirteen stories that make up this volume. The request of a grandfather to his grandson to take a photograph of him after his death and that he continue with that family tradition, the misfortune and bewilderment of a man who wakes up every night at two twenty-two, the order that an acclaimed pianist he makes a young man write letters to friends who have already passed away at his dictation, a woman's wish that death surprise her placidly traveling by bus or the discovery of a coffin next to the garbage containers, are some of the stories that are part of Memento mori. In the second book of his stories, the writer Álex Oviedo masterfully immerses us in everyday situations where fatality and helplessness in the face of the evidence of death conditions and determines the passing of the life of its protagonists.
