Spiegelman, Art

Maus is the biography of a Polish Jew who survived the Nazi extermination camps. That man is called Vladek Spiegelman, and his son Art tells his story; in fact, the son is a comic artist, and he wants to reveal the terrible persecution that millions of people experienced in Europe under Hitler, and the effects that suffering left on the daily lives of the following generations. Far from the usual ways that have been used to deal with the Holocaust, Art Spiegelman approaches the subject in a completely innovative way, telling his family's experience in the form of a graphic memoir, using all the traditional stylistic and narrative resources of the genre and, at the same time, new resources. inventing The narrative radicality of this work set a milestone in the graphic novel universe, and as a result it won the Pulitzer Prize: the first and only award given to a comic book.
