Más allá de Concordia
Robles, Lola
Concordia, a peaceful, developed and almost utopian world, has granted asylum to three inhabitants of the planet Mirguissa. While waiting at the city's spaceport for him, the Concordian Einer recalls the first time he contacted the three landing Mirguissians. Einer and his partner Odri were anthropological explorers on that planet of wild mountains, where they learned about the rite of the vergines, virgin girls who, by their own decision or because they are forced, become men and from that moment on are recognized as such. . That rite has directly affected arriving travelers. The three refugees, Irina, Ismail and Kadar, will try to adapt to a society very different from the one from which they come. Nor will it be easy for Mercury, the person who hosts them, since he does not accept their customs and traditions, which he considers archaic and sexist. For her part, Einer tries to help Odri, who has been suffering from a deep melancholy since her stay in Funchal, a world where a bloody civil war is taking place. Odri and the three Mirguissians, each one from their own experience, are discovering that Concordia is not as ideal a society as it is believed, but isolates itself and protects itself from unwanted realities. Based on the true story of the sworn virgins that exist in countries like Albania, the writer Lola Robles delves into science fiction to also talk about our world and propose questions about coexistence, pacifism and the construction of personal and collective identity. Ella Robles presents us with a feminist and queer utopia that does not aspire to reach perfection, but to assume its mistakes and transform them.
