Marie Curie (1867-1934) was not only the first woman to win the Nobel Prize, but also the only person to have won it twice: in 1903 and 1911. Although her work was looked down upon by French scientific institutions, she made discoveries true pioneers in the field of radioactivity, as well as discovering two new elements: radium and polonium. In this moving biography, the author offers a vivid portrait of a more dynamic and politically engaged Curie than the generally widespread topical image of the isolated genius. This book also includes an essay by Sabine Seifert on Irène Joliot-Curie, Marie's lesser-known eldest daughter, her collaborator and also awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1935.
