María Pérez Lacruz, known as María la Jabalina, was the last woman assassinated by the Franco regime in the Valencian Community. In 1942, when she was only 25 years old, she was shot at El Terrer, the infamous wall of Paterna (Valencia). The young anarchist from the Juventudes Libertarias had grown up around the Puerto de Sagunto factory, where the atmosphere of workers' struggle was breathed. At just 18 years old, she had the courage to enlist as a militiawoman in the Iron Column, where she worked as a nurse. She was probably the first woman injured in the civil war. During the post-war crackdown she was ratted out, detained, and wrongfully accused of crimes she could never have committed.
