Maresi

Only women and girls are allowed in the Red Abbey, a refuge from abuse and poverty. Maresi, a thirteen-year-old novice, is happy there, safe under the Mother's protection. When the dangers of the outside world chase young Jai into the abbey's sacred space, Maresi can no longer hide behind her books and routines: she must act. The women and girls of the abbey must use all their powers and ancestral knowledge to fight the men who want to destroy them. And Maresi will have to face her deepest and darkest fears.
