The field of addictive behaviors is a professional field of great demand and expansion among health professionals and, especially, among psychologists. The relevance of the role of psychology is supported by the proven evidence of the effectiveness of psychological therapies in the treatment of this type of problem. In contrast to biological reductionism, the essential nature of the psychological model consists of analyzing and explaining addictive behaviors in relation to the context, as an essential part of the biopsychosocial conception that today constitutes the predominant framework in the treatment of addictive behaviors.
