An anonymous letter warns Maigret that a murder is about to be committed. After an effective investigation, his Judicial Police team discovers that the letter comes from the home of Émile Parendon, a renowned lawyer who authorizes the commissioner to search his luxurious apartment on the Champs-Élysées. However, the identity of both the author of the letter and the victim remain a mystery. To avoid the announced crime, Maigret will interrogate the suspect for two days, but despite his efforts, he will not be able to prevent the tragedy. When the body appears, everyone in the lawyer Parendon's house will have something to hide: to solve the crime, the detective must penetrate the elusive and complex web, made up of appearances and lies, of Parisian high society.
