Madrid bombardeado
cartografía de la destrucción, 1936-1939
Bordes, Enrique
Sobrón, Luis de
On November 8, 1936, the troops revolted against the Second Spanish Republic began what was intended to be the final assault for the taking of Madrid. The systematic aerial bombardment of the capital by the Condor Legion of Nazi Germany and by the Aviazione Legionaria of Fascist Italy began, as well as the artillery bombardment from the ground by the batteries stationed at the Casa de Campo and Cerro de the Angels. These attacks did not stop until February 1939, shortly before the surrender of the city and the end of the war. This book-map, written and designed by two architects, professors at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, shows the traces of those bombings in today's city. It is the result of a laborious research, of several years, methodologically impeccable and with the ambition to continue in time, aspects that are not easy to combine. Madrid already has, like other European cities that suffered the same fate shortly after, a study and a map of its bombings. But what you have in your hands is much more than a chronological relationship of the attacks, which until now were not completely dated, we must not forget it, it is a living atlas of the first real test of Total War.
