Odessa Hardwicke's life derails when she is forced to shoot her partner, a federal agent who inexplicably loses control during the capture of a violent killer. The shot, in self-defense, shocks the young agent, but what most worries Odessa is the spectral entity that has seemed to see detach from the body of her deceased partner. Hardwicke, who doubts her sanity and her future in the FBI, agrees to be in charge of collecting the belongings of a retired agent in the New York office.
