During the harsh winter of 1809, Napoleonic troops are rising victorious throughout Spain. But the soldiers of Sir John Moore, recently killed in the battle, are on their heels. They must buy time for the bulk of the English army to catch up with them. Now in command of this rifle regiment is Lieutenant Richard Sharpe. Isolated in enemy territory, demoralized, their only hopes to save their skin lie in seeking shelter in a safe harbor on a complicated journey through the mountains. They need the help of the Spanish cavalry for this. However, everything has a price: Sharpe and his men must participate in the assault to regain Santiago de Compostela from the French.
