Los que esperan su duelo
Sanclemente, Carlos
The afternoon when it is announced that Gabriel, her husband, has been intercepted by one of the paramilitary gangs that infest the region, María has a dark feeling. An impulse as thoughtless as it is inescapable pushes her to seek him relentlessly, even at the risk of her own life. A blind wandering only truncated by the unexpected arrest, in the city, of her son. As soon as she comes to her aid, the same armed group, commanded by Commander Ambarino, seizes her town, decreeing her exile. She will fight to survive, but above all to overcome the anguish and longing incubated in her soul. Will she be able to find out Gabriel's fate? Will she ever be able to return to Almadia? These questions will induce her to face the worst of her executioners. Trapped by a war that raged at the beginning of this century in a southern country, the life of Mary, like that of other passengers in this story, alerts us to the devastating effects of absence and draws on the black canvas of forgetfulness, or oblivion, a story about the value of hope. The most genuine human instinct.
