Los profetas
Jones Jr., Robert
Isaiah was from Samuel and Samuel was from Isaiah. It had been that way from the beginning, and it was to be that way to the end. In the stable they take care of the animals, but also of each other, transforming the hollow construction into a space of human shelter, a source of intimacy and hope in a world ruled by cruel bosses. However, when an older man, also a slave, tries to win favors by preaching the master's gospel on the plantation, the captives begin to turn against their own. The once simple love of Isaiah and Samuel is now seen as sinful and a clear danger to the harmony of the plantation. With a lyricism reminiscent of that of Toni Morrison, Robert Jones Jr. passionately evokes the voices of masters and slaves alike, from those of Isaiah and Samuel to those of the calculating patron or the long line of women around them, women who they have always carried the soul of the plantation behind their backs. As the tension increases and the weight of the centuries - of the ancestors and of the generations to come - ends in a culminating judgment, The Prophets masterfully reveal to us the pain and suffering that the legacy entails, although there is also room for hope, beauty and truth in the portrait he makes of the mighty and heroic power of love.
