Los Netanyahus
Cohen, Joshua
On Christmas 1959, Ruben Blum, a Jewish historian, is chosen at Corbin University to assess the application of an exiled Israeli specialist in the Spanish Inquisition. This is Benzion Netanyahu, father of Benjamin Netanyahu, former president of Israel. Joshua Cohen mixes fiction and reality in this campus novel that he was able to write thanks to his friendship with Harold Bloom. The Netanyahus is a wild comedy about integration, identity and politics. It reveals to the reader the daily history of the creation of the state of Israel, the Jewish emigration in the United States and the Zionist theories about the expulsion of the Jews in the Iberian Peninsula. It is a novel in which we can all feel identified, precisely asking ourselves what it means to have a national, religious or gender identity.
