Los juguetes de la guerra
Pobla, Carolina
A woman struggles to support her family as love and friendship make their way in times of war. One autumn afternoon in Barcelona, ??Violeta, the author's mother, was informed of the death of her brother Víctor. And with the news comes the great revelation: Victor was adopted. In 1942, Elsa, widow of a Luftwaffe aviator and mother of six children, including Violet, returns to the Bavarian town where she spent her childhood summers. She wants to keep her children away from the war, but upon arrival she finds the family mansion converted into a military hospital and she has to accommodate her family in a humble cabin in the bush. As the country around her falls apart, the children grow and they live experiences that will make them mature quickly. Elsa, a struggling mother and an efficient worker who uses her knowledge as a midwife to help in the hospital, is also a young woman who, despite the prevailing chaos, will live an intense love story.
