Los desacuerdos de paz
artículos y conversaciones (2012-2022)
Vásquez, Juan Gabriel
Since the peace negotiations with the FARC were announced in Colombia, Juan Gabriel Vásquez has not stopped commenting on the process that has brought so much hope -and so much polarization- to that country. This book collects everything he has written about it: his opinion columns in media around the world, but also conversations with former President Juan Manuel Santos, with the head of the Colombian government's negotiating team in Havana, Humberto de la Calle, and with the sculptress Doris Salcedo. The peace disagreements not only documents the events of the last ten years: it also proposes a reflection on the lies and violence that have degraded citizen coexistence. The book includes an unpublished prologue and epilogue in which Vásquez tries to answer two questions: in post-truth times, how to exercise opinion journalism? And in the post-conflict country, how to recount the past? From his journalism, Vásquez previously defended the negotiations just as he defends the agreements now, but always with a lucid gaze and away from all sectarianism, and from a position that is not ideological or only political, but also humanist and moral.
