Lo que han oído es cierto
testimonio y resistencia
Forché, Carolyn
This is the story of a woman's radical act of empathy and her momentous encounter with an enigmatic man who will change the course of her life. Carolyn Forché, one of the most acclaimed poets of her generation, was twenty-seven when the mysterious stranger appeared at her door. Relative to a friend, he was a charming scholar with an apparently disordered as well as brilliant mind. He had heard rumors about who it might be: a lone wolf, a communist, a CIA agent, a revolutionary... But no one seemed to know for sure. He invited her to visit and see her country, El Salvador, and she, for reasons she did not fully understand, accepted. Together they met with high-ranking military, impoverished farmers, and clergymen who were desperately trying to help the poor and keep the peace. While priests and peasants were assassinated and the protest marches attacked, he was determined to save his country and Forché became involved in his company. Thus began a journey to social consciousness at a dangerous time.
