Lelia doura

antología de la poesía galaico-portuguesa (siglo XII-XV)

Barja, Juan (ed.)

This anthology has two objectives: 1) to offer readers a brief set of poems that bring together the best and highest of Galician-Portuguese poetry at the time of its flourishing and maximum expansion; 2) offer it in such a way that it is accessible to Spanish-language readers, or to those who, even though they are Galician, will have difficulties reading a text that uses both medieval lexicon and prosody. The translation aims to preserve, together with what the text itself says, the approximate manner and form in which we hear and see what it says, something fundamental in poetry, but more so in a case like this in which values, rhythms and musical sounds, which give meaning to their meaning. The pieces of the work are divided into cantigas de amigo (where the maiden speaks, and which are the majority), cantigas de amor (where the voice of a man, the poet, is heard), cantigas de escarneo e maldicer (critical works of social or class character) and some other sample of poems of various content. The edition of this Galician-Portuguese poetry, of an intensely sensual nature, and whose quality is at the height of the best lyrical production in the Spanish language (indebted in many ways to it), is enriched with an effective introduction and a commentary and apparatus of very clarifying notes.
