Lazos de tinta

Huertas Gómez, Rosa

Manuela has grown up in poverty. Daughter of a laundress and an undesirable, she has suffered the hardships of a city where the abyss between social classes is insurmountable. However, thanks to a neighbor of hers, Manuela has something that most of her do not have: she knows how to read. When her mother dies and she runs away from a father who wants to abuse her power and use it, her path crosses with that of a young writer, Gertrudis Gómez de Avellaneda. Raised in a family with means, rebellious and always knowing that she is different from the girls of her class who only aspire to marry and be in society, Gertrudis not only thinks about reading and writing, but she has the audacity to want to publish. She will be able to contact others who, like her, know they are different and are willing to make her voices heard. This is how the Lyrical Brotherhood will be born, a group of intellectual women united by a passion for knowledge and books and by the need to vindicate their works against those writers whose names do appear in history books. Manuela's life and Gertrudis's will remain intertwined forever between a cold Madrid closed to changes and the other cities where they will seek that freedom they crave against all odds.
