Lavinia
Le Guin, Ursula K.
Lavinia grows up knowing nothing but peace and freedom until the arrival of her suitors. Her mother demands that she marry the handsome and ambitious Turn. But the omens and the prophecies of the sacred springs say that she will have to marry a foreigner, that she will provoke a war and that her husband will not live long. Seeing a fleet of Trojan ships coming up the Tiber, the young woman decides to take charge of her own destiny. And so she tells us what Virgilio did not do: the story of her life and the love of her life. Le Guin voices this character emerged from Virgil's Aeneid in a novel that transports us to the semi-wild world of ancient Italy, when Rome was nothing more than a grimy village located near seven hills.
