The history of vaccines shows us that they are the most effective preventive method against known and emerging diseases, capable of causing pandemics. No other pharmacological preparation has saved so many millions of lives nor has it eradicated or controlled so many diseases. They prevent suffering and death, and also bring benefits to unvaccinated people and those at risk who live in their environment, thanks to the famous group immunity. The innovations introduced by genetic engineering, the in-depth study of the immune system and microorganisms have made it possible to develop vaccines of a very diverse type. Thus, vaccination schedules have been extended and have contributed to the significant decrease in the number of cases and deaths from infectious diseases in the last century. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought about a radical change in many of our attitudes and responsibilities regarding personal and global health, but above all it has implied a new scenario in the development of vaccines, obtained in record time. Never in the history of humanity have so many human and economic resources been available for a common goal.
