Las razones del arte
una introducción al arte, desde Lascaux a Koons
Onfray, Michel
Contemporary art is a language that needs the same initiation as any other work of art, regardless of the century. In the same way that it is not easy to understand Hyacinthe Rigaud Rigaud's portrait of Louis I would like to guide you from the first vestiges of art (Chauvet, 40,000 years ago) to the famous bouquet of Jeff Koons (2019), or in other words, from prehistory to the present day, to fight against those who claim that art is dead , that the Beauty that has always been established by law will no longer be, and that they believe that we should throw away all contemporary art. Beauty has been a recent and ephemeral concern in the history of art: it lasted between the invention of the word "aesthetics" in 1750 from the pen of Baumgarten and that of photography in 1826. Argue, therefore, that, because art contemporary has stopped being Beautiful, it would no longer be legitimate to talk about art, it is nonsense.
