2019: Kate leaves London, abandoning everything to move into Weyward Cottage, which she inherited from her great-aunt. With its ivy waterfalls and unkempt garden, the cabin is a world away from the abusive partner that tormented her. But Kate begins to suspect that she hides a secret in the foundations of the place, hidden since the witch hunts of the seventeenth century. 1619: Altha stands trial for the murder of a village farmer. As a child, her mother taught her magic, one based on a deep knowledge of the natural world. But peculiar women have always been considered dangerous, and when evidence of her witchcraft is presented, she knows she will need all of her powers to maintain her freedom. 1942: In the midst of World War II, Violet is trapped on her family's large estate. Trapped by social convention, she wants two things: the education her brother receives from her and her long-deceased mother, who is said to have gone mad before she died. The only trace Violet has of her is the medallion with a W and the word "Weyward" etched into the wainscoting of her room.
