Las muertas
Ibargüengoitia, Jorge
The Dead begins on a sunny January day in which four travelers slowly cross a Mexican mountain range. After arriving in Salto de Tuxpana, with the light already fading, they ask for a bakery, they are given the addresses of the three that exist. In the last one they visit, the only woman among the four, recognizes her objective, prepares a can of gasoline that they spill on the floor of the premises, set it on fire and escape as peacefully as they had arrived. The only victims of the fire, the couple who run the site, survive and the husband is the first to make a statement of the facts. Little could they suspect that, from this interrogation of a victim, they would end up unraveling one of the most surreal, sinister and even comical tragedies remembered in Mexico.
