Boyne, John
After a family tragedy and due to the sudden religious fervor of his grieving mother, Odran Yates is forced to be ordained a priest, so at the age of 17, he enters the seminary of Clonliffe accepting the vocation that others have chosen for him. Four decades later, Odran's devotion is shattered by revelations that are destroying the faith of the Irish people from a sexual abuse scandal. Many of his fellow priests end up imprisoned, and the lives of young parishioners are destroyed. When a family event reopens the wounds of the past, Odran is forced to confront the demons unleashed within the Church and to acknowledge their complicity in those events.
