In 2015, the arrival of more than a million refugees in Europe put the European Union one step away from the abyss, but the misnamed 'refugee crisis' was not caused by those fleeing conflict. Equating the trip of the refugees with that of Ulises, Rafael Vilasanjuan shakes our consciences and confronts us with the harsh reality: unable to accept the failure of their migration policies, the European institutions have not only set aside their principles, but have also converted immigrants into enemies to be fought against. Ulises' Borders reveals and deconstructs the false idea of ??"invasion" -driven by ultranationalist movements but assimilated by a largely indifferent society- to remind us that refugees are not immigrants or enemies, but victims of barbarism in search of asylum. Denying them that right is not only ethically questionable, but illegal. Like the adventures of Ulysses in The Odyssey, this is the story of the journey of those who flee from besieged cities, navigating the same waters and landing on the same islands where the culture that would end up shaping what we are now boiled over. A journey, however, where the divine epic has been replaced by human barriers in which the legacy of Western democracy and human rights are shipwrecked.
