For four very different women, winning the competition would represent a crucial opportunity to change their lives. For a young widow, it's a chance to pay off her husband's debts and keep a roof over the heads of her children. For a kitchen maid, it's a chance to leave servitude and find freedom. For a lady who lives in a mansion, it's a chance to escape the increasingly hostile behavior of her wealthy husband. And for a chef, it's a chance to challenge the men at the top of her profession. These four women will give their all, even if they have to break the rules established in a troubled time.
