Las astronautas olvidadas

trece americanas que debieron llegar al espacio

Ackmann, Martha

Three years before the Soviet Valentina Tereshkova became the first woman to go into space, a secret NASA program had already recruited thirteen candidates for an identical mission. They never received public attention, nor were they assigned a mission name. They were trained at the same time as their colleagues on the "Mercury" missions, in secret, and later ignored by a space agency that preferred male test pilots to women trained in civil flights. This book reconstructs their history and gives voice for the first time to that group of people ahead of their time who would end up being known as "the Mercury 13". After its dissolution, NASA would take even more than two decades to send a woman into Earth orbit.
