La verdad sobre el neoliberalismo
el poco que hay y el mucho que falta
Mingardi, Alberto
In a world where new walls are being erected every day and political confrontation is becoming more and more heated, so-called neoliberalism has become the common enemy uniting right and left, populists and democrats, reactionaries and progressives. Whether it is the relocation of companies, mass immigration, job insecurity or the spread of COVID-19, the culprit is always the same: the free market and capitalism. Neoliberalism is used as a scapegoat and is caricatured as an economic, media and political system governed in secret by an elite of unscrupulous speculators hidden behind their media terminals, who fill the pockets of a select minority while doing away with all social protections. And, consequently, the solution to these evils will always be the same: more laws, more controls and, therefore, more State. Alberto Mingardi dismantles these unfounded beliefs and shows that neoliberalism is not the enemy. Mingardi ridicules the myth of the tyrannical and dominant market, with a journey through history that shows that, in the last decade, there have been fewer neoliberal policies than is believed. And that this, paradoxically, is a problem, because to that little neoliberalism that has existed we owe the highest levels of growth and prosperity. Mingardi demonstrates that neoliberal policies are less common than is believed and more beneficial than is thought.
