María Casares
Plantagenet, Anne
María Casares (1922-1996) was born and raised in Galicia. In 1936 she fled with her family to France, settling in Paris. She studied acting at the Paris Conservatoire despite her difficulties with the language, which she decided to learn right away. She met Albert Camus and maintained a romantic relationship with him until his death in 1960. With her tenacity and effort, she became the muse of French existentialism, performing works by Camus, Sartre, Claudel or Jean Cocteau, among others. She was above all a free woman, a person with an iron will, and, at the same time, a woman whose fragility moves us on every page. Anne Plantagenet, the author of this impressive book, tells the story of a Spanish woman who fell in love with France and who fought to conquer the stage, the cameras and the glory.
