La trampa del optimismo
cómo los años noventa explican el mundo actual
González Férriz, Ramón
The nineties of the twentieth century began, in a sense, on November 9, 1989, with the fall of the Berlin Wall. It was a cataclysmic event that attested to the failure of Soviet communism and ushered in an era of enormous optimism. Liberal democracy already seemed to be the only desirable political system, and that gave Western countries renewed confidence in the virtues of an open, tolerant, and free-market system. Simultaneously, on a cultural level, the rich world was experiencing an outbreak of popular culture. The globalization of this popular culture was driven by new television formats such as MTV and, in a still tentative way, by the expansion of the internet. It was a changing and rich decade, but also full of contradictions, unleashed euphoria and the seed of subsequent dramas. In this book, Ramón González Férriz presents us with a mixture of narration of the historical events of the nineties with interpretations of a more essayistic nature in the light of the time that has passed, and mainly deals with the European politics, economy and culture of the time to understand where we are at the moment. A chronicle of the nineties, a momentous decade to understand today's world.
