La sinfonía pastoral

Gide, André

This renowned novel by the Nobel Prize for Literature 1947, André Gide, tells the story of a shepherd who lives in the vicinity of Neuchâtel, at the end of the 19th century. Guided by his humanitarian sense, he welcomes a blind and orphaned young woman in his house, whom he instructs using sound images and musical metaphors. The almost paternal feelings that moved her good deed and that will be transformed into love, together with the jealousy of the pastor's wife, who sees how her son also ends up falling in love with the young woman, will lead to an unpredictable outcome. Gide reflects in this narration his moral tribulations full of tension and at the same time of a certain poetic breath and enormous humanity.
