La república de los espíritus libres
Jena, 1800
Neumann, Peter
The French Revolution not only shook the European politics of its time; In the German city of Jena, a generation of young poets, philosophers and writers decided, around 1800, to rethink the world. The Schlegel brothers together with their wives, philosophers like Schelling, Fichte or Hegel, and poets like Novalis or Tieck gathered in the small university town to build a "republic of free spirits". In addition to questioning traditions and society, they contributed to transforming our understanding of nature, freedom, and the entire human reality. Peter Neumann recounts the marvelous existence of this community of free men and women who laid the foundations for the emergence of modernity.
