In Melbourne, one hot night, threatened by forest fires that have broken out in the outskirts, three women find themselves in the darkness of a theater. While attending a performance of Samuel Beckett's Happy Days, each of them thinks about the future with anguish but also about her wishes and ambitions. Margot is a literature teacher, is about to retire and has to deal with a sick husband. Ivy, a middle-aged philanthropist, after a traumatic past, has a seemingly perfect life. And Summer, a theater student who works as an usher in the room where the play is performed, despairs because her girlfriend's family is caught in one of the wildfires.
