Morton, Andrew
She was twenty-five years old when the sudden death of her father, King George VI, made her sovereign of the United Kingdom. At that time, Elizabeth was already married to Philip of Greece, who later adopted the title of Duke of Edinburgh, from whose marriage four children were born: Carlos, Ana, Andrés and Eduardo. With her coronation in 1953, Elizabeth II (Lilibet for her family) inaugurated the longest reign of the contemporary age, only interrupted by her death on September 8, 2022, shortly after celebrating the seventieth anniversary of her on the throne. Isabel II has been the personified image of the monarchical institution, to which she has dedicated all her good professional work. She had to go through great difficulties as sovereign, although the issues that most transcended public opinion were family ones, from the initial lack of fit in the role of Prince Philip in court to the divorces of her children, the death of Princess Diana and, lately, the break with the British Crown of his grandson Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle.
