La radio ante el micrófono
voz, erotismo y sociedad de masas
Álvarez-Fernández, Miguel
These pages trace a peculiar history of radio. A story that runs parallel to the evolution of mass society -that is, ours-. Through the analysis of a series of artistic works created expressly for the radio medium, Miguel Álvarez-Fernández hypothesizes the relationship between this early global technology and certain discursive elements typical of fascism. The seduction mechanisms with which the radio continues to trap us, the eroticism of its accusmatic voices, the halo of nostalgia that has always accompanied its transmissions... All of this configures a special type of relationship with the listener that here is called intimacy. radio, and whose study is channeled through a metaphor: the throbbing membrane of the microphone. The vibrations of that elastic border surface put the virtual and electronic space of the radio in contact, on the one hand, with the place where bodies and their voices caress -or hit- that membrane, on the other. That tension feeds this little treatise on radio performance.
