The FBI has removed Porter and his team from the Anson Bishop (The Fourth Monkey killer) case, who soon face a new series of murders: after being missing for three weeks, the body of Ella Reynolds appears in a pond in Jackson Park, although the water has been freezing for months. In addition, she wears the clothes of another young woman who disappeared just two days ago. Porter and his team begin to piece together the leads of this new case, and at the same time, secretly, Porter follows Anson's trail. When his superiors discover him, Porter is suspended from his duties while Clair and Nash search for the lake killer. Anson's track will take Porter from Chicago to New Orleans and South Carolina.
