La promesa
Antonio Benaiges, el maestro que prometió el mar
Martínez Sancho, Javier
Bernal, Sergi
At the end of July 1936, the Catalan master Antoni Benaiges disappeared. Two years earlier he had arrived in the Burgos town of Bañuelos de Bureba ready to apply the Freinet technique in his small rural school, an innovative pedagogical methodology from France, based on student participation and the use of printing. For more than 75 years, the work and personality of the teacher remained in the privacy of the memory of his former students, his colleagues and his family, who also kept the desire to know the truth about his disappearance. In August 2010, on the occasion of the exhumation of a common grave in the area of La Pedraja (Burgos), a resident of Bañuelos will bring up the figure of the teacher murdered in July 1936 at the foot of the grave, saying: "Here is buried the teacher of my people. This work collects the story of a promise that could not be fulfilled, and with it, the memory of who made it.
