Surely more than one has seen a fragment of the debates about Brexit or the coronavirus crisis, there with Boris Johnson fighting tirelessly against the elements. And the tears of indignation of the mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau? And that euphoric "storm the skies" by Pablo Iglesias? And how good did Pedro Sánchez make us feel when he was inaugurated as president saying that he would let the boat with migrants that Matteo Salvini had blocked in Italy dock in Spain? Perhaps you have seen one of the many memes that were made about the Canadian Justin Trudeau to prince charming in a photo with Melania Trump. And do not deny that, after the great crisis, you have heard on more than one occasion about the admiration that Angela Merkel arouses. And of the irritation that Abascal's speech arouses, there is no doubt... What is the truth in all this? And in all of them? And in those feelings that millions of people generate? The science of emotion has been studying it for a long time, and just as the technological giants of Silicon Valley use it to make us feel good, to create needs and activate us, the same happens with the politics that governs us. And is that, if feelings move the world, how could they not also do with politics? We live more from "liking" than from "enjoying", more from appearances than from realities. And how could a politics that lives in a permanent campaign not sublimate that? It is the world we live in. The protagonists of this book are that. It is them, but it is also us.
