After defeating Darken Rahl, Richard sets out to enjoy the greatest reward he could ever hope for: Kahlan's love. But, inadvertently, the young man tore the veil that separates the world of the living from the world of the dead and now he must face the supreme evil, the fearsome Custodian of the underworld, who tries to escape. To defeat him, Richard must learn to master his nascent arcane talents, otherwise he will die.
